Research Proposal: Training Students to Use Podcasts Effectively
In ETCV 560 - Research Methodologies - we were asked to develop a research proposal on an educational technology of our choice. We had recently started podcasting all of the lectures in the College of Medicine and there was some concern about how the students used the podcasts. Instead of sitting down and listening to the podcast and taking notes as they went along, it was feared that students were not devoting their attention to the podcasts (running or listening while doing other activities).
This proposal looks at the effects of training students to rethink their study methodologies with the introduction of a new technology. Does training students to thoughtfully revise established study habits in order to take advantage of the availability of a new technology result in higher scores on exams?
